Malibu Playhouse is committed to working with playwrights in developing new plays, adaptations and musicals and strives to produce at least one world-premiere production each theatrical season. Should a script be selected for development and production consideration, Los Angeles-area playwrights are encouraged and expected to participate in readings, staged readings and workshops of their selected scripts.

Malibu Playhouse does not accept unsolicited scripts in either hard-copy form or electronically, and will be returned (if a self-addressed stamped envelope is included) without further consideration.

Malibu Playhouse will accept unsolicited scripts only from literary agents, dramaturgs or other theater professionals with an accompanying letter of introduction, playwright’s resume and synopsis of material submitted. Electronic submissions are preferred.

An email inquiry from playwrights not represented by an agent must include: a letter of introduction, resume, synopsis of material submitted and the first 15 pages only. Playwrights will be contacted for a full script if it meets Malibu Playhouse’s requirements.

Currently we are seeking full-length plays, adaptations, translations and new musicals. Cast size may not exceed 8. Contemporary period and provocative subject matter are preferred. Malibu Playhouse works under the Actors’ Equity Los Angeles 99-Seat Theater Plan (http://www.actorsequity.org/docs/codes/99_seat_plan_06.pdf).
