Red Carpet Opening Night

Esquire PhotographyLast night, celebrities and theater-lovers walked the red carpet to celebrate the sold-out opening night of Malibu Stage Company’s final production, Blood Knot by Athol Fugard.  Directed by Academy Award winning actor Lou Gossett, Jr., and produced by outgoing artistic director, Richard Johnson and Diane Peterson, the production stars A Martinez and Oscar Best, who give impassioned performances in Fugard’s powerful condemnation of aparteid, as depicted by two brothers, one black, the other fair-skinned.  Graced by Mr. Gossett’s fluid staging, and supported by Richard Johnson’s nuanced lighting design and Terence Davis’s meticulous sound design, this excellent production of Blood Knot closes the curtain on Malibu Stage Company and sets the stage for Malibu Playhouse.
